The journey to become Navigators Chapter 357 started during the pandemic when everyone was at home schooling. Starting from a small local inclusive COVID safe playgroup grew to a playgroup that met all over the Rochester/Monroe County area. Finding ways to support balancing social needs, sensory needs, and medical needs has been at the forefront of this journey.
In the fall of 2021, as the the COVID vaccination became available to all ages allowing for additional health protections for our group, we started experimenting with more structured activities to support homeschooling families, many with a variety of needs that were not being met at brick and mortar schools. While researching options of what this group could grow into we discovered Navigators USA. An international alternative scouting organization that acknowledged neurodiversity, LGBTQ+ needs. Navigators USA provides us just enough structure that we have a foundation and large network of support as we grow our Chapter while also affording us the flexibility to meet the needs of our Chapter members.
We have a more organized weekly meeting on Monday afternoons, Tuesday late afternoon we meet virtually to play on our private Minecraft server, and a standing Friday afternoon social meet-up. Members are welcome to sign up and join us at any of these activities through our member portal with TroopTrack.
All members pay an annual dues which covers general annual expenses. Members help at the weekly Monday meetings, Friday meet-ups at free public locations.
